The Specialized Information Service (FID) Classical Studies - Propylaeum is an open access repository and a joint project of Heidelberg University Library and the Bavarian State Library in Munich, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Since 2016, the FID Classical Studies has been supporting researchers and students from all fields of Classical Studies with its services and has been a participant of NFDI4Objects since 2023. Propylaeum’s subject-specific and interdisciplinary services complement each other within the framework of the subject and acquisition profile: In terms of time, the profile of the specialized information service extends from the Palaeolithic period to the early modern period, while the regional focus is on the Old World, particularly in the Mediterranean region and Central Europe.

Propylaeum supports Open Access as a publication model for the dissemination of research results and publishes both first publications (“golden road”) and second publications (“green road”). The publications are archived permanently and citable with standardized addresses (URN, DOI) and metadata. They can be searched worldwide in various library catalogs and search engines.

The following publication options are available to classical scholars worldwide:

  1. The Propylaeum-eBOOKShttps://www.propylaeum.de/publizieren/propylaeum-ebooks platform enables the publication of monographs, edited volumes and series from all fields of ancient studies.
  2. With the Open Journal Systems (OJS) software, Propylaeum-eJOURNALS offers a technical platform for publishing electronic journals.
  3. The document server Propylaeum-DOK enables the publication of scientifically relevant works, university theses and above all essays.
  4. recensio.antiquitatis enables the electronic publication of reviews of ancient studies publications.

As part of all these publication models, you also have the option of archiving your research data.

Propylaeum also offers the option of digital editions of historical text and image corpora, including personalized annotation and commentary functions.
