ArchaeoDocs and iDAI.field – expert systems for excavation documentation
Based on open-source software that has been established at the DAI since 2018, Field is being further developed within NFDI4Objects as a service for recording excavation data in the field.
By using a common core data model, all excavation data can be compared with each other and thus reused. Adaptation to the needs of individual excavations or users is possible through a limited number of extensions. In addition to the “offline first” approach, which enables collaborative work in which the data initially recorded locally can subsequently be synchronized with each other in local networks or via the Internet without data loss, the integration of image and geodata as well as the international usability through the multilingual user interface or input of metadata should be emphasized.
As part of NFDI4Objects, the interface between Field and archaoDox is to be further developed. In addition, the possibilities of publishing excavation results via web-based solutions and “classic” forms of publication such as excavation reports are to be explored and automated as far as possible. The development is based on the needs of the users.
