Geophysical methods are an integral part of research-oriented, institutional and commercial archaeology in the non-destructive analysis of underground structures and anomalies. However, German archaeology lacks uniform standards and norms for data collection, processing, interpretation and archiving, particularly with regard to relevant metadata. A “Geophysical Prospection” community cluster is intended to bring together experts who cover the entire spectrum of geophysical applications in the context of professional archaeology. The aim is to compile current knowledge of existing standards from the various fields of work, discuss developments and potential problems and, as a result, create guidelines that can become the norm for good data practice in Germany.
