Archaeological textiles
The CC offers a platform for exchange between the textile archaeology fields of restoration, analysis and scientific evaluation. In Germany, these are divided into two areas: On the one hand, textiles from the Mediterranean region, especially Egypt, which are found in large numbers in German museums. On the other hand, European textile finds, especially from local excavations in Germany. The textile finds from both areas show different preservation, archaeological contexts and evaluation possibilities. However, the use of textile terminology, the methods of textile analysis and documentation, the application of conservation measures and the desire for an interpretation of the data are common features. In the CC, the different areas of work and fields of activity will benefit from each other. This applies in particular to the topics of textile terminology, analysis and documentation of archaeological textiles, salvage and conservation as well as issues relating to the handling of incomplete data and reconstructions. Another topic will be the systematic collection and pooling of research data on archaeological textile finds.
