Workshop of the Metadata Section of the NFDI e. V.
Development of NFDI-wide recommendations for metadata standards
On 14/15 January 2025, a cross-consortia workshop of the NFDI metadata section took place at the Open Science Lab of the Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB) with around 50 participants. All consortia were invited to send representatives. The Metadata Task Force, which organised and conducted the workshop, considers this workshop to be an important first step on the way to developing NFDI-wide recommendations for metadata standards through a process supported by the community and the consortia. To this end, the existing standards DCAT, DataCite and schema.org were discussed and evaluated in a World Café based on their use and needs in the consortia. In a further step, a survey was used to prioritise metadata fields for an NFDI core data set. Consideration was also given to inventorying NFDI-relevant research data repositories via the re3data directory in order to gain an overview of the existing research data on the one hand and to enable cross-disciplinary research on the other.
